To clean your mortar, we recommend water and a non-abrasive cloth or scouring pad. It's best to avoid harsh soaps, as mortars are porous and can absorb aromas and flavors. If you're using soap, it's best to use a very diluted solution. Two other techniques are to grind a few grains of rice into the flour inside the mortar or to clean it with a baking soda paste.
